What Would Frida Do?

IF LULU’S SPRING / SUMMER ‘15 MUSE AND MEXICAN ARTIST FRIDA KAHLO WERE STILL ALIVE AND VISITING LONDON TODAY, WHERE WOULD SHE GO AND WHAT WOULD SHE DO? WE IMAGINE A DAY IN HER 21ST CENTURY LIFE...

“I PERSONALLY LIKE TO THINK I WAS ONE OF THE VERY FIRST TO EMBRACE THE SELFIE CRAZE WITH MY SERIES OF PAINTED SELF-PORTRAITS. NOW I’M OBVIOUSLY NOT PRECIOUS, BUT I DO LIKE TO KEEP AN EYE ON THE COMPETITION, SO I USUALLY START MY DAY WITH A GOOD GRANOLA AT THE TOWN HALL HOTEL ‘CORNER ROOM’ RESTAURANT IN BETHNAL GREEN, WHERE I CAN PICK UP ON SOME OF THE YOUNG ARTISTS THEY’VE THOUGHTFULLY COMMISSIONED. I ADORE DEBBIE LAWSON’S GRIZZLY BEAR PERSIAN CARPET AND ZOE MENDLESON’S COLLAGES ARE A JOY TO BEHOLD OVER A MATCHA TEA.

AFTERWARDS I’LL PROBABLY POP BY AND TAKE IN THE ATMOSPHERE AT ISSEY MIYAKE’S NEW STORE ON BROOK STREET WHICH IS A PULSING WORK OF BRILLIANCE IN ITSELF.

DID I TELL YOU I’M WEARING MY NEW WOOL VALENTINO CAPE WITH A SMUDGY BUTTERFLY PRINT FLYING ALL OVER IT?IT’S THE IDEAL OUTFIT TO WEAR TO VISIT THE NEW ALEXANDER MCQUEEN EXHIBITION, ‘SAVAGE BEAUTY’ AT THE V&A; THE MUCH ANTICIPATED AND INSPIRING RETROSPECTIVE OF THE TALENTED DESIGNER’S WORK.

IT’S A SESSION TO STRUT IN THAT ENCOURAGES YOU TO DOWNWARD DOG AND STRIKE A POSE AT THE SAME TIME. NOW THAT’S A SELFIE TO SNAP – BEAUTY IS AFTER ALL WHERE YOU FIND IT...”
