Weekend 101: Audrey Hepburn, Portraits of an icon

Few stars have possessed as much beauty, grace and humour as the iconic Audrey Hepburn. She has captivated audiences and photographers the world over for decades, and now for the first time in the UK, an exhibition of rare and some unseen pictures of the actress are on display.

‘Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of an icon’  follows Hepburn’s rise to fame from her humble childhood beginnings and time as a ballet dancer, to her Oscar nominated roles and humanitarian work.

We popped to the preview of the exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery shortly before its opening to the public on 2 July. The event was attended by one of Audrey’s sons Luca, who donated the images along with his brother Sean.

The exhibition is short but achingly sweet. Each room is lit up by the repetition of Hepburn’s instantly recognisable face – her features almost become more and more beautiful as you follow the exhibition’s narrative.

Afterwards we nipped to the art gallery gift shop, where a selection of our handbags and accessories are available to coincide with the exhibition, including the striped Lily tote, black lipstick clutch, black Chloe clutch with lipstick clasp and the black patent t-steam.

‘Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of an icon’  runs until 18 October 2015. Find out more about the exhibition here.
