Modern Day Icons

Defintion: “The quality of being amusing or comic.”

We stop to ponder the funny side of things and celebrate British comedy powerhouse Absolutely Fabulous in the run up to their long-awaited feature film, as well as admire all things Olivia Colman. Plus don’t miss our feature video and interview with humorous photo illustrator Vanessa McKeown.

Absolutely FABULOUS

Absolutly FABULOUS

Considering how much the show is still referenced even in today’s popular culture, it would be easy to think that show has still been on TV for the past decade, but in fact it hasn’t properly since 2012. Now the fashionable comedy is making its way to the silver screen, where audiences can see Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley reprise their roles as haphazard friends Eddy and Patsy. Expect a lot of laughs and even more labels in the highly awaited feature, which is also set to include cameos from Kate Moss, Joan Collins, Stella McCartney and more.

Few British based comedy series can expect the same levels of success as the beloved show. So what was their recipe for success? Two unconventional heroines who at the end of the day did whatever they chose to without much regard for anyone else. Hardworking, laughing in the face of adversity, and incredibly rude, there were the nation’s loveable rebels. More a British institution than just a comedy show, Eddy and Patsy have now crossed the line from 90s TV characters to Modern Day Icons.

Olivia COLMAN

Olivia Colman's been in some of the best comedies of the last ten years – Peep Show, Green Wing, The Office, Black Books, and who could forget her role as Sally Owen in Olympic themed satirical show Twenty Twelve. Her mix of humanity and humour within her performances has made her one of the nation’s favourite comediennes, and it wasn't long before her talent saw her transitioning to dramas.

As well as being a national treasure in the thespian world, the 42-year-old mother-of-three is also a down-to-earth one-to-watch in the fashion stakes and a Lulu Guinness favourite. Just four months ago the comedy icon wore our thorn Chloe Clutch to the British Film Awards.

She is a true representation of a Modern Day Icon thanks to her passion for her performances and willingness to take risks in her career.
