Things to do, things to see… Riviera Style exhibition at Fashion and Textile Museum

This week, the Riviera Style exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum caught our eye. Opening today, the exhibition explores over 100 years of fashionable bathing from the English seaside to the Côte d’Azur and California.

The bold, block colours used in the promotional posters for holidays (above) reminded us of our most bright handbags in our SS15 collection, and we particulary loved the frenzied linear sketch by Pablo Picasso (below).

Photographs of bygone beach fashion and modelling shoots are peppered throughout the exhibition to get a real sense of former sunny holiday style. The exhibition also aims to highlight the significance that Britain had on swimwear design in the fashion world.

Head of the Fashion and Textile Museum, Celia Joicey said she hopes the exhibition will illuminate past and present swimwear fashions, and inspire future design directions in the industry’

Warning: you will leave the museum lusting for blue skies and sandy beaches, but with Summer just around the corner, holiday daydreams are a welcome side effect.

RIVIERA STYLE: Resort & Swimwear since 1900 opened today and runs until 29 August 2015.
