Lulu's Fan Club

Introducing Lulu’s new Fan collection, crafted by Khu Khu

There’s something delightfully theatrical about a hand-fan. The sharp snap as it opens. The flash of colour or lace. The sense that a practical object can also become a statement piece. All in all, it’s very Lulu.

Created in Valencia, in collaboration with Khu Khu, the collection reimagines the traditional hand-fan through a distinctly Lulu lens – bold, witty and unapologetically expressive. From graphic stripes to playful Heatwave motifs and the striking Lace fan with its signature lip-shaped handle, each design balances fashion and function in equal measure.

The collection taps into the growing appeal of beautifully made objects that feel timeless yet relevant. Crafted in Spain using traditional fan-making techniques, the fans are made from sustainable materials and designed to last, offering a slower, more considered alternative to disposable summer gadgets.

The collection also celebrates the artistry behind the fan itself. Long associated with elegance, drama and self-expression, the hand-fan has always carried a certain sense of performance, something in the Lulu Guinness DNA. Whether slipped into a handbag for a summer wedding, opened poolside on holiday or dramatically unfurled on a crowded train, these are accessories designed to be noticed.

Q&A with Victoria Speyer, Founder of Khu Khu

We spoke to Khu Khu founder Victoria Speyer about craftsmanship, collaboration and why the humble hand-fan deserves a modern revival. Khu Khu produced all the fans in Valencia and collaborated on the design of the Lips Fan.

What made you want to reinvent hand-fans for a modern audience?

It began with a moment of personal frustration. While living in sunny Seville, I found myself surrounded by countless fan shops, yet every shop offered the same traditional designs. I realised there was a huge gap between these traditional fans and modern fashion. The hand-fan is such a clever, functional object, it felt like a missed opportunity to leave it stuck in time.

Why do fans feel newly relevant today?

On a practical level, the natural essence of the hand-fan – no batteries, no plastics, just sustainable materials – feels particularly relevant in a time when we need to protect the environment and cope with rising temperatures. We’re providing a way to stay cool that is as kind to the planet as it is beautiful to look at.

What drew you to collaborating with Lulu Guinness?

I’ve always admired how Lulu Guinness turns everyday accessories into iconic statements. Our mission has been to do the same for the hand-fan – taking a traditional item and making it modern and beautiful. Functional yet fashion-forward felt like a perfect match.

Do you think there’s something empowering about carrying a fan?

Yes, absolutely. Just the sharp snap of opening a fan demands a room’s attention. It turns a simple gesture into a moment of pure empowerment.
