ABOUT US
Quintessentially British, Lulu Guinness is an iconic handbag brand with a legacy-making heritage - as the originator of witty, playful bags to place proudly on the table, not on the floor.
Our Story
It all started in 1989, when our then 29-year-old founder introduced Lulu Guinness to the world with a daring debut: a ladylike attaché briefcase designed specifically for women. How subversive!
Driven by her own unique style – vintage-inspired, feminine, and laced with playful humour – Lulu began creating the brilliant designs that have made her a household name. With no formal training, she relied on her own creativity and instincts alone. ‘My life changed in 1993 when I designed the Florist Basket’, remembers Lulu. ‘It caught everyone’s imagination.’
What began as a series of extraordinary ideas soon evolved into a design empire. Lulu’s early pieces – particularly the Florist Basket and the iconic Lips Clutch – became instant signatures for the brand and some of the most recognisable and celebrated designs in British fashion.
A Cult Following
Lulu Guinness is nothing short of an icon. Our founder and creative force, she has spent the past 36 years reshaping the global fashion landscape with her unmistakable British wit and artistry. Lulu's sophisticated silhouettes and witty embellishments have become cult favourites around the globe. And regularly seen on the arms of trailblazing women, such as Bella Hadid, Kate Moss, Gillian Anderson, Clara Amfo and Blanca Miro.
In formal recognition of her profound impact on British design and culture, there are seven of her most celebrated designs housed in the permanent collection at the Victoria & Albert museum and in 2006, she was awarded an OBE for services to the fashion industry. Today, she remains at the heart of our brand, leading our aesthetic vision with the same playful spirit and punk-like irreverence that started it all.
